Dishwasher Problems We Fix

A dishwasher that stopped cleaning properly is usually a spray arm, a pump, or a seal away from working like new.

Dishes Come Out Dirty or Gritty

Blocked spray arms, a clogged filter, or a worn wash pump that no longer builds pressure.

Water Left in the Bottom

A blocked drain hose, a failed drain pump, or a connection shared with the disposal that is backing up.

Leaking Under the Counter

Door seals, split hoses, and pump gaskets leak quietly into the cabinet floor before you ever see water.

Will Not Start or Stops Mid-Cycle

Door latches, thermal fuses, water inlet valves, and control boards that halt the cycle to protect the machine.

Dishes Still Wet at the End

Heating elements, vents, rinse aid dispensers, and, on European models, a drying system that works differently by design.

Cloudy Glasses and White Film

Detergent buildup, a blocked rinse aid dispenser, or water not reaching temperature. Fixable and not permanent damage.

Repair or Replace Your Dishwasher?

With a dishwasher, the appliance is often the least of it. If yours is integrated, the front is a custom cabinet panel made to match the rest of your kitchen, and a new machine has to accept that panel, or the panel has to be remade by a cabinetmaker. The unit is also hardwired or hard-plumbed under the counter, with a supply line, a drain connection, and usually the counter itself sitting on top of it. Premium units from Miele, Bosch, Thermador, and Gaggenau run into thousands before any of that. What actually fails is a pump, a valve, a heating element, a door seal, or a control board, and those are replaced with the machine in place. When a repair would cost more than the dishwasher is worth, we tell you straight, and you have that number before anything comes out from under the counter.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do my dishes come out with food still on them?

It happens because water is not reaching them with enough pressure, not because the machine is worn out. Blocked spray arm holes, a filter full of debris or a failing wash pump are the usual causes, and all three are routine repairs. Cleaning the filter every few weeks prevents most of it.

My dishwasher will not drain. Is it the dishwasher or the garbage disposal?

It is often the disposal, and that is worth knowing before you book. The dishwasher drains through it, so a blockage in the disposal or in the shared line stops the dishwasher too. Our technician tests both and clears whichever side is at fault on the same visit.

Why do my glasses come out cloudy?

It is usually too much detergent rather than hard water. New York City tap water is soft, so the mineral scale that causes cloudiness elsewhere is rarely the culprit here. A cloudy film that rinses off means excess detergent or a rinse aid dispenser that has stopped releasing, and etching that does not rinse off is permanent and comes from running glassware too hot for too long.

My dishwasher does not dry the dishes. Is it broken?

Not necessarily, and this is worth checking before you call. European models from Bosch, Miele, and Thermador dry by condensation instead of a heating element, so plastics stay damp by design and the machines are working as intended. If your unit has a heated dry setting and dishes are still soaking, then the element, the vent, or the rinse aid dispenser has failed, and we repair it.

Do you repair panel-ready and integrated dishwashers?

Yes, we do. Integrated units from Miele, Bosch, Thermador, Gaggenau, and Fisher and Paykel, including dishwasher drawers. We remove the machine from under the counter without disturbing the custom panel or marking the surrounding cabinetry and reinstall it exactly as it sat.

Why does my dishwasher smell even when it is empty?

It smells because food residue is trapped where the water no longer reaches, most often the filter, the sump, or the drain hose. A machine that also drains slowly is holding standing water between cycles, which makes it worse. We clear the whole drain path and replace the door seal if it has absorbed the odor.
