Washing Machine Problems We Fix

A washer that will not drain, spin, or stop shaking is usually a pump, a seal, or a set of suspension parts.

Water Left Standing in the Drum

A blocked pump filter, a clogged drain hose, or a failed pump. Coins and hairpins account for most of these.

Clothes Come Out Soaking Wet

The machine fills and washes but never spins properly, usually due to a lid switch, a worn belt, or a motor coupling.

Leaking Onto the Floor

Door boot seals, split hoses, and pump gaskets. Worth catching the same day before it reaches the apartment below.

Shakes, Bangs and Walks Across the Floor

Worn suspension rods and shock absorbers. Left alone, the vibration takes the drum bearings with it.

Stops Partway Through a Cycle

Door locks, water inlet valves, pressure sensors, and control boards that halt the machine to protect it.

Smells of Mildew Every Wash

Front-load gaskets, detergent buildup, and a drain that never fully clears. Cleanable and preventable.

Repair or Replace Your Washing Machine?

Before you price a new washer, price getting it into your home. A machine weighs upwards of two hundred pounds, and in most New York buildings that means a narrow staircase or a service elevator that has to be booked, plus a certificate of insurance for the delivery crew and the old unit hauled back out the same way. Stacked and closet installations are tighter still. Against that, the parts that actually fail are pumps, hoses, seals, suspension rods, valves, and control boards, and every one of them is replaced with the machine where it stands. Drum bearings are the honest exception: on an older mass-market washer, that repair can approach the value of the machine, and when it does, we say so plainly rather than quote it and let you find out.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is there water still standing in the drum at the end of a cycle?

It stays because the machine cannot drain, and nine times out of ten the cause is a blocked pump filter or a clogged drain hose rather than a failed pump. Coins, buttons, and hairpins collect there over years of washing. Clearing it is a standard visit, and the machine drains normally afterwards.

My front loader smells of mildew. Can that be fixed?

Yes, it can. The odor comes from water and detergent residue trapped in the door gasket, the detergent drawer, and the drain path, not from the machine itself wearing out. We clean the gasket, the sump, and the drain line, replace the seal if it is damaged, and show you the routine that keeps it from coming back.

Do you repair stacked washer and dryer units?

Yes, we do. Stacked and closet-installed units from LG, Samsung, Whirlpool, Bosch, and Miele are common in New York apartments, and we service both halves in place. We separate the stack only when the fault requires it and put it back exactly as it was.

Do you work on compact 24-inch and European washers?

Yes, we do. Compact units from Bosch, Miele, Asko, Blomberg, and Beko use different pumps, bearings, and control systems than full-size American machines, and our technicians carry the tools and common parts for them.

My washer shakes so hard it moves across the floor. Is that serious?

Yes, it is worth attending to quickly. Shaking that severe means worn suspension rods or shock absorbers, and the vibration steadily damages the drum bearings, turning an inexpensive repair into an expensive one. It also loosens hose connections, which is how a shaking machine becomes a leaking machine.

Do you service all-in-one washer-dryer combo units?

Yes, we do. Ventless combo units are increasingly common in New York apartments where no dryer vent exists, and they combine a washer with a condensing dryer in one cabinet. The condensing side and its drain path fail more often than the wash side does.
